Primary Steam reforming is the key process in the production of syngas for ammonia plants. In this process, natural gas is mixed with steam and reformed to syngas. KhTD Co. offers a variety of natural gas steam reforming catalysts, each one recommended for a particular application and feedstock. PSR-4HSQ-CA-01 is an alkali free catalyst type based on calcium aluminate carrier (CaO/Al2
). Considering this carrier as a basic catalyst support, the coke formation during the reforming of light natural gas feedstock will be significantly retarded compared to alpha alumina carrier. In addition, by exposing the catalyst at high temperatures, this carrier shows excellent thermal stability due to its superior thermal characteristics. The catalyst pellets also indicate a uniform and high crush strength. The high specific surface area owing to suitable porosity and proper pore size distribution results in high catalytic activity and lower coke formation over the surface of the catalyst. Due to no presence of free calcium oxide (CaO) besides well carrier hydration step under high temperature and pressure steam prior to impregnate with nickel salt, PSR-4HSQ-CA-01 is capable of tolerating steam condensation and liquid carry-over which may happen at start-up or mal-operation and failures during process operation.
In case of substantial amount of heavy components (C2+
) in the natural gas feedstock, loading of PSR-4HSQ-CAK-01 as well as PSR-4HSQ-CA-01 is recommended since the presence of such heavy components would enhance coke formations. Alkali metal incorporation to a small extent gives the catalyst superior resistance against coke formation through reducing catalyst surface acidity.
PSR-4HSQ-CA-01 and PSR-4HSQ-CAK-01 catalysts with the shape of 4-hole cylinder with 4 flutes and domed ends provide a very low pressure drop, low approach to equilibrium temperature, suitable porosity and high external surface area which is suitable for enhancing the catalyst activity.
